Riverdale Baptist came to Olney on Friday night feeling confident and prepared. It left with a statement win.
The Crusaders took down defending Washington Catholic Athletic Conference champion Good Counsel, 28-18. They controlled the game throughout, never trailing and standing tall against a strong Falcons group with ambitions to repeat in the WCAC.
Riverdale Baptist’s assemblage of talent is as deep as any. The Crusaders (3-0) boast more than 20 players committed to play Division I football, bolstered by a host of impactful transfers — some of whom came with new defensive coordinator Andre Kates from Rock Creek Christian, which closed its upper school.
“As a smaller, independent school, we don’t play for championships. We play to get kids in college and get them to the next level,” Coach Olandis Gary said.
