Every Tuesday DCSportsFan will break down the teams that compete in the various D.C. basketball conferences. This is the very unofficial but accurate ranking of the public and private high school basketball programs of the greater Washington, D.C. area. A lot of the initial rankings will be based on record alone combined with strength of schedule, but as the season progresses, more emphasis will be placed on week-to-week performance.

1. DeMatha (9-1)
It’s no surprise that the Stags are the team to beat this year with all the talent their team possesses. Until they lose locally, this is right where DeMatha will sit in the rankings until the WCAC playoffs roll around, and that’s not to say they won’t be favored in that competition as well.

Tyler Thornton, Gonzaga (Duke)
Playing in the Junior Orange Bowl Tournament in Miami, Florida, Thornton scored 50 points over three games as Gonzaga went 2-1. Thornton also scored 20 against St. Frances.

Girls Basketball Power Rankings

1. Elizabeth Seton (9-1)
Tyuanna Marshall and the Roadrunners have been playing great basketball of late.

2. Georgetown Visitation (12-1)
The Cubs only loss was by one point. Junior Nicole Krusen is deadly from three-point range.

3. Good Counsel (9-2)
A January 17th meeting with Georgetown Visitation should be very competitive...

Wrestling: Arundal Holiday Tournament

DeMatha, St. John's & St. Anselm's paricipated along with 22 other schools at the at Arundal Holiday Wrestling Tournament. There were over 20 wrestlers in each varsity and JV weightclass. The Arundel tournament is noted as one of the toughest wrestling tournaments held in the state of Maryland. Urbana High School won the tournament.
