St. John’s College High School point guard Malik Mack received his first high major offer from Ole Miss Sunday night. Mack is a 6-foot-1, 160-pound prospect in the class of 2023 who plays his high school ball in Washington, DC.
“I’ve been in contact with coach (Robert) Kirby,” Mack told Inside the Rebels. “Our relationship started when he was at Georgetown and he came to watch our open gym. At the time I was coming off (a knee) injury, but he let me know that he saw my talent and would be watching.”
This past May, Robert Kirby was hired to be a part of Kermit Davis’ coaching staff as an assistant coach. Here’s some background on Kirby, via Ole Miss Athletics; One of the most well-respected assistant coaches in the nation, Kirby comes to Oxford with 37 years of Division I coaching experience, with his most recent stop being a five-year stint on Patrick Ewing’s staff at Georgetown from 2017-22. In his long career, Kirby has helped lead his teams to 19 postseason berths (11 NCAA Tournaments) and has coached 18 professional players.
Like Malik said, their relationship began during Kirby’s time in Georgetown. So what is it about Ole Miss that interests the 2023 guard?

Shot making point guard Malik Mack talks visits, schools involved

“I think I showed the coaches watching me, my ability to lead, facilitate, score, and defend too. Next game I want to improve on facilitating and getting my teammates involved. The game we just played wasn’t my best performance, I want to have more assists.”
As of right now, Mack is open in his recruitment but is starting to set up visits.
“Right now I’m open to all schools but I am starting to set up my official and unofficial visits. Then by the end of July I want to be able to start to narrow it down.”
“Next week I’ll go to Harvard on the 29th, then in July I’ll go to Rhode Island. I’m thinking about Florida Gulf Coast and an unofficial to GW and possibly George Mason. Those are the five right now.”
