The memory of last year’s Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championship game is still vivid for the DeMatha football team. In that waterlogged showdown last November, the Stags were shut out by Good Counsel, who left Annapolis with hardware in hand and denied DeMatha its first title since 2016.
Regular season football naturally carries less tension than that of the playoffs. DeMatha, on a six-game winning streak, now sits alone atop the conference standings.
“We’re one of the best conferences in the country, if not the best, and every one of our teams are quality football teams,” Stags Coach Bill McGregor said. “Good Counsel is the defending champion, and they’re incredibly well-coached. They’re a good football team. I was just really proud of how we came out and played.”
