The margins are always razor-thin in the Interstate Athletic Conference. It has been three years since the championship was decided by more than a single game. Last season, Georgetown Prep, Landon and Episcopal had to settle for a three-way tie for first place.
The race has been close again this fall, but there will be an outright winner Saturday night. Georgetown Prep (6-2, 4-0 IAC) and Bullis (8-1, 4-0) are undefeated in conference play entering the season’s final week, setting up a winner-take-all contest between two of the area’s hottest teams at Prep’s campus in North Bethesda.
Georgetown Prep, which has held a spot in The Washington Post’s Top 20 all season, has spent the past month doing nothing but winning. The Little Hoyas hit a snag in September with two losses in three games but are on a four-game winning streak since the start of IAC play. Winners of four of the past five conference titles, the Hoyas have a winning tradition that has become the IAC’s gold standard.
