Notre Dame junior long snapper Alex Peitsch is set to transfer from the Fighting Irish football program. The 6-1, 215-pound junior did not play this season in 2022 and did not participate as a sophomore in 2021. He saw action in only one game during his true freshman year back in 2020.
It was announced last week that Michael Vinson would be returning to Notre Dame for his sixth season. With the starting long snapper for the Fighting Irish still locked in for the 2023 season, it was seen as a strong possibility that Peitsch could potentially move on.
Peitsch arrived at Notre Dame as part of the 2020 recruiting class. He was considered the No. 1 long snapper in America out of St. John’s College high school in Washington, DC. His only offer was Notre Dame, but he received a ton of interest from Georgia, Penn State, Wake Forest and Yale. 247Sports listed him as a two-star recruit.
Despite not seeing anything from him, Peitsch was widely regarded as the best at his position coming out of high school. In fact, Jamie Kohl of KohlsKicking.com raved about him. The only hangup that prevented him from showing off his terrific talent is that Vinson has been in the way and has had a terrific couple of years for the Fighting Irish in that role.
