      On the same evening in which it honored its latest group of hall of fame inductees and performed amidst a festive, homecoming crowd, the St. Mary’s Ryken High School football team made quick work of visiting St. Paul VI Catholic High School last Friday night as the Knights rolled to a 48-14 victory.

      St. Mary’s Ryken (4-3) had already boasted several lopsided victories against other private school teams, although its best performance prior to last Friday likely occurred in a 27-21 setback against Washington Catholic Athletic Conference power Good Counsel. On Oct. 10, however, the Knights trumped that performance by trouncing the same squad which upended them in the WCAC Metro Division title game last fall.

      “I wasn’t expecting this type of win,” said St. Mary’s Ryken coach Gary Wynn, whose team will travel to Bishop O’Connell this Saturday. “I was happy that we were able to execute as well as we did not. I mean, we never took our foot off the pedal. Offense played great, defense played great and we had a score from special teams. It was a very good all-around effort, which is what you want to see in week seven.”
