KeymasterFive-star Nyckoles Harbor stayed on the field Saturday during halftime. All his Washington (D.C.) Archbishop Carroll teammates filed into the locker room with the Lions holding an 8-7 lead in a tough battle with Chantilly (Va.) St. Paul VI that would ultimately be decided on the final seconds of the game.
Archbishop Carroll head coach Robert Harris waited with Harbor while a rectangular box was delivered from the stands to the field. Harris and Harbor opened the box and pulled out a black Under Armour jersey. Harbor’s eyes lit up and a smile creeped across his face.
This wasn’t a number retirement ceremony. It wasn’t a jersey unveiling of what the Lions were going to wear in the postseason or an elaborate college commitment reveal. This jersey was one Harbor will wear after Archbishop Carroll’s season is finished and likely after he has already signed with a college.
Across the chest, read “All America.”
Harbor was presented with a jersey to celebrate him earning a spot in the Under Armour Next All-America Game to be played in Orlando, Fla. on Jan. 2.
“It’s an honor. It shows that I’m one of the best high school players to have come out ever,” Harbor said. “There’s only a select few that get that jersey every year and I’m one of them, so it’s a really big honor just to have that memorabilia on me now.”
Harbor is one of the most electrifying athletes in the nation. He runs an absurd 10.28 100-meter dash. It’s one of the fastest high school times in the nation, but it isn’t coming from a shifty receiver or a dynamic defensive back. Harbor is 6-foot-5, 225 pounds and plays defensive line and tight end.
