      The Jackson-Reed starters hurled their gloves toward the sky. The bench horde leapfrogged the dugout stanchion. One player, who managed to get his hands on the Gatorade jug, doused the Tigers’ coaching staff in blue liquid and ice.

      Jackson-Reed’s 6-0 victory over School Without Walls in Thursday’s D.C. Interscholastic Athletic Association baseball championship game had some familiar tropes: The Tigers entered as favorites, jumped out to an early lead, blanked their rival and exited the Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy in Southeast Washington as champions.

      It was the team’s 30th consecutive D.C. public school title.

      “We had a great game today,” sophomore infielder Jackson Loomis said. “Everybody’s energy was up. It made me smile. We had a lot of fun. That’s what it’s all about.”

      Both the Tigers (22-6) and Penguins (19-5) compiled strong regular season résumés, with Walls emerging as a bona fide challenger to Jackson-Reed’s city dominance despite a lack of field space. Both programs face an annual struggle for resources.
