In the first half, Gonzaga controlled most of the possession and the territory. Several Prep handling errors resulted in spending most of the 35 minutes tackling the Eagle ball carriers. The Hoyas tallied 60 tackles in just the first half. About 24 minutes into the half, Gonzaga broke away down the sideline after some nice offloading for a 50 meter unconverted try.

Prep answered about 4 minutes later when Gonzaga kicked to clear their 22 after a scrum. Senior fullback Zach Geoghegan gathered the kick and beat multiple defenders for a 35 meter try under the posts. He also slotted the conversion.

Prep started the scoring early in the 2nd half. Senior fly half Michael Yost made a 40 meter line break deep into Gonzaga territory. After multiple phases, Yost completed a long pass to senior wing Landon Jana who touched down in the corner.

Gonzaga kept attacking for the next 15 minutes and made two separate line breaks, both chased down by Geoghegan. The second resulted in a loose ball picked up by senior flanker Patrick Veith who returned it 50 meters into Gonzaga’s 22. After an offside penalty against Gonzaga, Geoghegan kicked through a penalty to put the Hoyas up 15-5.
