Keep your eyes on Quincy Wilson… if you can.
The 16-year-old sprinter from Maryland made history Sunday, becoming the youngest U.S. male track and field athlete to make an Olympic team.
Wilson exploded onto the scene at the U.S. Olympic trials in Eugene, Oregon, last week. Though he failed to qualify for the 400 meters at the trials (he finished sixth), the rising junior at Bullis School in Potomac will reportedly be part of the U.S. 4×400 relay team in Paris.
Wilson’s coach, Joe Lee, confirmed that the young phenom received the news on Sunday.
“The call came directly to me from USA Track & Field,” Lee told USA Today. “I called Quincy afterwards with the good news.”
Wilson told ESPN that he was “ecstatic” when he received the call.
“I started running around the house,” he said. “It was just a moment for me because everybody dreams about going to the Olympics as a young kid.”
