Dwayne Bryant Named Ireton Basketball Coach

This past March, Bishop Ireton announced that it is moving in a new direction with its boys basketball program. Coach Neil Berkman, the varsity head coach for the past 11 years will no longer be coaching the team. Incoming Athletic Director Dwayne Bryant said of the change, “Coach Berkman’s tenure included some great moments and he represented the Ireton program and community with distinction. Without question, Coach Berkman is a first-class person.”
Head of School Kathleen McNutt echoed Bryant’s words: “On behalf of the Cardinal community I want to thank Neil Berkman for his efforts and dedication to the Bishop Ireton boys basketball program throughout these 11 years.”
Effective immediately, Dwayne Bryant will assume the position of head coach for the boys basketball program in addition to his duties as athletic director. Dwayne has had tremendous success as a basketball coach here in the Washington D.C. area. He was the head boys basketball coach at T.C. Williams High School from 1997-1999, where he led the Titans to the District Championship in his first season, led the team to a runner-up finish in the Northern Virginia Region and was named the District Coach of the Year, the Northern Region Coach of the Year and the Alexandria Sportsman’s Club Coach of the year. Coach Bryant then moved on to Georgetown Prep School in Bethesda, Md. where he built one of the most successful high school basketball programs in the D.C. metro area in his 11 years as head varsity coach. During that time, he guided more than 30 of his players to play college basketball at the D-I, D-II and D-III levels.
