St. John’s Prep Names Devin Williams New Basketball Coach

A long-time assistant basketball coach at Gonzaga is finally getting his shot. Coach Devin Williams was recently announced as the new varsity head coach at Saint John’s Catholic Prep (SJCP) after 10+ years at Gonzaga.

At Gonzaga, Coach Williams helped the program reach new heights amassing 3 WCAC Championships (2015,2017,2019), two DCSAA Championships (2017,2020) Two DC Classic Championships (2017,2019), and one Alhambra Catholic Invitational Tournament Championship (2017). While on Eye Street, Coach Williams had a hand in the direct development of 5 DC Gatorade POY’s, along with 7 All-Met student-athletes.

While Coaching at Gonzaga, Coach Williams jumped into the world of AAU Basketball, coaching with the DC Blue Devils and creating his own program District Basketball Club. During his stint with the DC Blue Devils, Coach Williams had the opportunity to help in the development of two extraordinary young prospects by the names of Markelle Fultz (NBA- Orlando Magic) and Jeff Dowtin (NBA G-League). After leaving DCBD, Devin with the help of his good friend started the District Basketball Club and since inception has sent 50+ kids to play basketball at the next level.

Between his high school and AAU responsibilities, Coach Williams gained a wealth of knowledge helping with USA Basketball’s Junior National program. During his time with USAB, Coach Williams assisted with practice coaching and game-day operations, working under coaches Don Showalter and Mike Jones. Those opportunities would lead him to work 2 Nike Hoop Summit events in Portland, Oregon, and 2 Junior National Team Mini-Camps in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
