Monday's All-Star Action

Exclusive First-Round Coverage!

Springbrook vs. McNamara, 5:30pm

Final Score: 58-44 (McNamara)

Leading Scorer: McNamara: Marcus Thornton (24 points)

Bottom Line:

This was not Springbrook's day. Due to the absence of several key players like Brandon Hedley and Demetric Austin, the team was forced to turn to its bench and couldn't get the production it needed.

Damon Brooks (7 points) and Wayo Adeji (16 points) did everything in their power to keep the team in the game, but with players like Marcus Thornton (24 points) and Kelsey Jenkins (8 points) leading the charge on the other side, they just couldn't get it done.

With just three minutes left in the second half, McNamara had taken a 14-point lead and showed no signs of letting up. After a couple more drives to the basket and three-point shots, McNamara closed out the scoring with Marcus Thornton at the free throw line and advanced to Thursday's second round to play the winner of the next game.

St. John's vs. Georgetown Prep, 6:40pm

Final Score: 44-16 (Georgetown Prep)

Leading Scorer: St. John's: Kevin Robbins (13 points)

Bottom Line:

They came, they saw and they conquered. St. John's completely dominated tonight's matchup with Georgetown Prep.

The Cadets opened up the game on a nice 14-0 run and continued its shut out until Prep finally scored its first point from the free throw line. A lot of times, a passionate halftime speech from its coach gets Prep headed in the right direction but tonight that was not the case as the blowout continued after the break.

Led by Ryan McNeil-Moses (4 points), Marcus Coates (6 points), and Kevin Robbins (13 points), St. John's stormed into the quarterfinals.

NEXT UP: Two WCAC foes clash as McNamara takes on St. John's Thursday at 7:50 p.m.

Gonzaga vs. Sidwell Friends, 7:50pm

Final Score: 51-27 (Gonzaga)

Leading Scorer: Gonzaga: Oliver Ellison (12 points)

Bottom Line:

This matchup between the number one seed, Gonzaga, and the number eight seed was nothing short of predictable. The Eagles came out and put on quite a show this evening.

Even though top players Malek Williams and Kris Jenkins weren't in the picture, Nate Britt (6 points), Oliver Ellison (12 points) and Cahli Thomas (9 points) took it upon themselves to make sure the team didn't miss a beat.

With less than two minutes left on the clock, Gonzaga held tightly onto its 20-point lead, but Ellison wouldn't stop there. He put an exclamation point on the victory with a huge slam over a Prep defender.

With lots of heart and determination, Gonzaga was able to take home the victory and earned a chance to strut its stuff tomorrow night in the quarterfinals. The team then waited patiently to find out who its opponent would be...

Kima vs. Carroll, 9:00pm

Final Score: 48-45 (Carroll)

Leading Scorer: Carroll: Lamont Baldwin (16 points)

Bottom Line:

Like a lot of teams in the playoffs, Kima and Carroll were missing some of their best players, but both sides still put on quite a show in the most heated contest of the night.

With just one minute left in the game and his team down by one, James Williams drove to the basket where he got the bucket and the foul, giving his team a two-point lead. Kima had a chance to respond and got the ball into Bryon Ashe's hands for the potential game-winner but unfortunately for them, he overshot the basket by a couple of feet. Lamont Baldwin hit a free-throw at the other end and Carroll celebrated the win.

The score was close throughout the entire game. Under the guidance of their respective leaders - Kima's Kareem Storey (10 points) and Carroll's Baldwin (16 points) - each team left it all on the court.

NEXT UP: Gonzaga vs. Carroll, Thursday, 9:00 in the final quarterfinals battle.
