Inside The Rock: Georgetown Prep Makes Strides
by Ryan Flood 7/2/2010

DeMatha vs. Georgetown Prep, 9:00pm

Final Score: 60-49 (DeMatha)

Leading Scorer: Georgetown Prep: Michael Boland (14 points)

DeMatha: Marcellous Bell (14 points)

The Little Hoyas couldn't knock off WCAC powerhouse DeMatha, but Georgetown Prep showed - as it has many times this summer - that it will be a force to reckon with not only in the IAC but against all of the top teams in the area.

Despite the offensive execution of guard JT Strickland (6 points), Taylor Abt (12 points) and Michael Boland (14 points), the Little Hoyas found themselves in the loser's circle tonight at The Rock. Their second half performance against DeMatha, however, was quite encouraging.

Even though Prep trailed the entire first half, it seemed as the break and a passionate speech from interim coach Nathan Lewis put a dash of pep in their step.

"I told them to take care of the ball and play basketball," said coach Lewis. In many cases, Prep did take heed to what their coach's admonished and were able to close in on DeMatha's double-digit lead. However, Prep made too many mistakes - turnovers and easy misses - and DeMatha was able to pull out the victory.

Lewis was excited about the courage his young team showed down the stretch. "This was a victory. We had the ball down six late in the game. If we don't make a turnover, then it's a different game," he said.

Having most recently rebounded from the departure of coach Dwayne Bryant and the graduating class of 2010, Prep still has some rebuilding to do. As far as the head coaching position is concerned, "They haven't named one yet," said Lewis. When asked about whether or not he was the coach-to- be, Lewis simply stated, "I'm in the running."
