WCAC Soccer: All-Conference Awards
by Todd Bradley 11/5/2009

All-Conference Selections for WCAC soccer were chosen last week, and Holy Cross’s Colleen Dinn and Bishop McNamara’s Mayowa Alli were chosen as the Players of the Year.

Dinn, who will play soccer at Georgetown next year, is a four-year starter for Holy Cross and scored eight goals this season while adding 11 assists. The Tartans finished the year 13-6-2 and lost to Good Counsel in the WCAC semifinals.

Bishop McNamara senior defenseman Mayowa Alli was a second-team selection in 2007, a first-team selection in 2008 and now can add Player of the Year to his resume for 2009. Alli helped lead a McNamara team to a 10-9-5 record on the season, which included victories over Gonzaga twice during the regular season and Carroll in the first round of the WCAC playoffs. The Mustangs eventually lost to DeMatha in the semifinals. Only DeMatha allowed fewer league goals than McNamara this season.

The Coach of the Year honors went to Archbishop Carroll’s Glenn Diaz and Holy Cross’s Nelson Abreau. Complete first, second and third-team selections are below. Honorable mention selections will be posted when they become available.

All-conference question?
Why does Good Counsel's goalie Wesley Long get 2nd team all-conference over McNamara's goalie Jeff Meekins who only got 3rd team all-conference. Meekins who has not played goalie since 8th grade stepped up this year big for McNamara. If someone would look at the stats he had the least amount of goals scored on him all season right after DeMatha's Joe Sullivan. Sullivan had 10 goals on him all season and Meekins if someone would realize that he only had about 21 because the other goals were scored while he wasn't starting goalie at the beginning of the season. He has a save percentage of about 86% and probably had more shots on him then Sullivan and was a major factor in beating Gonzaga twice this year as well as Carrol in the Quarter finals. He has earned a spot as 2nd team all-conference goalie. GC goalie, not to be mean did not earn and make as big of a statement this year as McNamara's. Stupid coaches selections.
