UNC Football Coach Butch Davis to Attend Banquet
by Todd Bradley 10/30/2009

Highlights From Last Year's Banquet

The Third Annual DCSportsFan.com Football Banquet will be held Sunday, January 31, 2010 at George Mason University, and University of North Carolina Football Coach Butch Davis will be the featured speaker. Before leading the Tar Heels, Davis was the head coach of the Miami Hurricanes and later the Cleveland Browns of the NFL. In past years, speakers have included Virginia’s Al Groh, Virginia Tech’s Frank Beamer, former Redskins General Manager Charlie Casserly, Brian Mitchell and Fred Smoot.

In addition to Davis attending the banquet, DCSportsFan will change the format slightly and feature the “Super 60”, which will include the top 60 players from the six conferences DCSportsFan covers. Players will represent the WCAC, IAC, MAC, DCIAA, Montgomery County and local teams that play independently (Friendship Collegiate, Ireton, etc).

By selecting the “Super 60”, DCSportsFan does not have to limit players by position, which allows the most deserving players to be in attendance. While all schools DCSportsFan covers will be included in one way or another, no school is guaranteed that one of their players will be selected.

Finally, DCSportsFan will begin making the first selections this weekend and will continue to add the most deserving players over the next few weeks. Some players will be voted in by the fans and some will be chosen. There are certain players who are obvious choices, and we would like to honor the tremendous seasons they are having by selecting them now rather than later.

To vote for which player should be the first one chosen, go to the homepage on DCSportsFan to cast your vote. Players included in today’s WCAC vote are DeMatha’s Marcus Coker (Iowa), St. John’s Charles Brown, Gonzaga’s Kevin Hogan, Good Counsel’s Louis Young and McNamara’s Brandon Coleman. We will announce the first player selected tonight after all votes have been cast. Each conference will have the chance to vote their first player in.

More details will be posted as they become available.
