DCSportsFan Baseball Showcase Review

Video Highlights; Photo Gallery

The first ever DCSporsFan Baseball Showcase was held October 10 at Montgomery College Germantown, and close to 100 student-athletes from more than 30 local high schools in the Washington, D.C. area participated in the day-long event. There were a handful of pro scouts and more than a dozen local college coaches, including first-year Maryland Coach Bakich and long-time Catholic Coach Ross Natoli, who both addressed the attendees before the showcase.

There were a number of impressive performances, but a few players managed to stand out in the crowd. Reservoir left-handed pitcher Kyle Alexander was one of the last pitcher’s to throw on the afternoon, but the 6-foot-1, 200-pound southpaw wasted little time impressing those who waited. Alexander was consistently hitting 84 MPH on the radar gun and received the highest remarks from those in attendance.

In addition to Alexander’s strong showing, Walter Johnson’s Mac Gill (85 MPH), Parkdale’s Alex Wiggins (83 MPH) and St. Stephen’s/St. Agnes sophomore Joe Warren (85 MPH) turned some heads.

Other pitchers who topped 80 on the radar gun consisted of Sherwood’s Adam Abrahamson (81 MPH), Riverdale Baptist’s Matt Selmer (80 MPH), Avalon’s Harry Klein (80 MPH), Quince Orchard’s Andrew Rogers (80 MPH), Magruder’s Matthew Luber (80 MPH), Wootton’s Austin Avant Johnson (81 MPH), Wootton’s Pete Spiropoulos (81 MPH), Northwest’s Nick Pak (81 MPH), Watkins Mill’s Carlos Sanchez (81 MPH) and Churchill’s Jamison McGrane-Wrench (80 MPH).

As far as the catcher’s were concerned, Walter Johnson’s Carson Kenney (2.00), Northwest’s Jeffrey Ta (2.03) and Reservoir’s Kevin Alexander (2.06) had the best pop. Matt Selmer (1.97) had the best arm in the infield while Loyola-Blakefield’s Redmond Floyd (3.84) was impressive from the outfield.

Complete times and information from the showcase are listed below.
