WCAC Football
McNamara @ Carroll, Saturday, 2:00
These aren't your older brother's Mustangs. McNamara is for real this season, and Carroll will most likely be the next victim in a season full of success for Bryce Bevill's football program. The Mustangs are scoring over 30 points per game, and the trend will continue this week:
Prediction: McNamara 38, Carroll 13
O'Connell @ DeMatha, Saturday, 2:00
DeMatha is averaging 42 points per game. O'Connell is averaging 17. The Stags win this game big as the ground game racks up over 300 yards.
Prediction: DeMatha 49, O'Connell 6
Paul VI @ Gonzaga, Saturday, 2:00
It's been a forgetable season for Paul VI, who has only scored 17 points this season. Gonzaga, on the other hand, has already doubled their win total from last season and should pick up win No. 5 on Saturday. Jake Ruffing scores three touchdowns and is named Homecoming King hours later.
Prediction: Gonzaga 42, Paul VI 6
St. John's @ Good Counsel, 5:00
Two years ago St. John's won this game as Antwon Bailey took a fake punt 50 yards to the house. Last year Good Counsel hammered the Cadets 42-3. Judging by SJC's poor performance last week against DeMatha, the Falcons are the heavy favorite. And in case the game is a blowout, the post-game Bull Roast should make everything worthwhile. Coach Milloy, any chance DCSportsFan can get a free plate of food???
Prediction: Good Counsel 35, St. John's 16
IAC Football
St. Albans @ Bullis, Friday, 7:00
This is a make or break game for both teams. Bullis can't lose another conference game and St. Albans needs to win to keep pace with the winner of St. Stephen's vs. Landon. St. Albans wins and claims Potomac Pizza as thier own.
Prediction: St. Albans 28, Bullis 14
St. Christopher's @ Episcopal, Saturday, 3:00
Since hammering Flint Hill to start the season, Episcopal has lost four straight games to tough opponents. This week should be different for the Maroon, who face a struggling St. Christopher's team. Episcopal's losing streak ends.
Prediction: Episcopal 23, St. Christopher's 10
Landon @ St. Stephen's/St. Agnes, Saturday, 2:30
This game could decide which team ends up the champion in the IAC this season. Other than a 12-point loss to Ireton on September 26, St. Stephen's has been lights out in 2009. Meanwhile, Landon is coming off a thrilling come-from-behind victory against a very good Woodberry Forest team. The Saints put up a fight, but the Bears walk away victorious.
Prediction: Landon 27, St. Stephen's 20
McDonogh @ Georgetown Prep, Friday, 4:00
We know that Prep isn't in the IAC, but we just can't bring ourselves to give people from Baltimore and thier athletic conferences any kind of recognition. The Little Hoyas need to do everyone a favor and come back from the dark side, even if the IAC doesn't want you. Join the WCAC, join the MAC, join the DCIAA. Just get out of Baltimore. Regardless, Prep wins their fourth straight game in a dogfight.
Prediction: Prep 23, McDonough 21
MAC Football
Maret @ Flint Hill, Saturday, 2:30
In year's past, this game was a one-sided affair as Flint Hill would typically roll to an easy victory. This will not be the case this season. Maret (5-1) enters the game as the favorites against a Flint Hill (1-4) team struggling to find its mojo. A victory Saturday could do wonders for Mike Engleburg's football program. DCSportsFan thinks it will happen.
Prediction: Maret 28, Flint Hill 27
Ireton vs. Sidwell Friends @ Wilson, Saturday, 2:30
After starting the season 2-0, Sidwell Friends has dropped five straight games while only scoring 14 points over that span. Ireton is coming off wins in three out of their past four games. The Cardinals win this game.
Prediction: Ireton 28, Sidwell Friends 13
Potomac School @ Poolesville, Friday, 6:30
We have a public school vs. private school match-up at Poolesville. The Potomac School from McLean comes in with a 6-0 record while Poolesville stands at 1-6. After studying this game, the Guru likes the public school this week. Potomac School improves to 7-0.
Prediction: Potomac 27, Poolesville 7
DCIAA Football
Wilson @ Dunbar, Friday, 7:00
One week ago, we would have told you not to waste your time with this one. Then Wilson beat Coolidge and changed everything in the DCIAA West. Are the Tigers for real or was last weekend a fluke? We'll find out Friday night.
Prediction: Dunbar 33, Wilson 20
Cardozo @ Roosevelt, Friday, 7:00
In what should be a competitive game in the DCIAA West, Roosevelt and Cardozo will play four tough quarters of football before a winner is decided. The Rough Riders walk away winners.
Prediction: Roosevelt 26, Cardozo 18
McKinley @ Ballou, Friday, 7:00
Moses Ware is making a case to be named the Coach of the Year at the DCSportsFan Football Banquet this January. The Knights roll to their sixth victory of the season.
Prediction: Ballou 34, McKinley 18
Spingarn @ Anacostia, Friday, 7:00
After starting the season with six consecutive brutal losses, Anacosita has won when it has counted, defeating Eastern and McKinley to start 2-0 in the East. The Indians make it three in a row with a victory over Spingarn.
Prediction: Anacostia 40, Spingarn 6
Eastern @ H.D. Woodson, friday, 7:00
After falling to Ballou last weekend, H.D. Woodson needs to get back in the win column, which is easy to do when facing Eastern. The Warriors beat up on the Ramblers.
Prediction: Woodson 50, Eastern 6
Montgomery County Football (Friday, 6:30 PM)
Blair @ Walter Johnson
Blair (1-6) travels to Walter Johnson (0-7) who is looking for their first win of the season. The Guru picked WJ last week against Northwest and came up a little bit short. If the Wildcats want to get a win this season, it better be this week against a Blair team that averages less than seven points a game.
Prediction: Walter Johnson 19, Blair 7
Churchill @ Sherwood
Churchill has to be the surprise team of the year so far with a 7-0 record. QB Alex Kantor led the team with two interceptions and a rushing touchdown last week against their arch rival Wootton. Sherwood’s stingy defense, which has only allowed 48 points on the season, was exposed last week by Damascus, who scored 26 points. This is going to be a great game with Sherwood winning a close one.
Prediction: Sherwood 24, Churchill 18
Clarksburg @ Paint Branch
The Guru really likes this match-up. Both teams are 6-1 and need to keep winning in order to secure a playoff spot. Last week the Coyotes beat up on Kennedy 39-6, while Paint Branch was doing a number on Richard Montgomery, 55-6. Paint Branch wins a close game at home.
Prediction: Paint Branch 17, Clarksburg 14
Einstein @ Blake
The Guru has another trend that has to be looked at. Since week two, Einstein (4-3) has won every other game that they have played. If this trend holds, they are due to win this week against Blake. Blake (2-5) could not do anything right in their performance last week against Seneca Valley. Einstein wins big.
Prediction: Einstein 26, Blake 13
Magruder @ Gaithersburg
The Guru thinks that Coach Kephart was too hard on himself after last week’s loss to Whitman, 12-7. Kephart will not make any mistakes this week and guide his team to a victory over Magruder, who was beaten up last week by Springbrook 30-0. Gaithersburg gets a big win.
Prediction: Gaithersburg 21, Magrruder 14
Northwest @ Wootton
Both of these teams are having tough seasons. Northwest (2-5) got a big win last week against WJ 18-12. Wootton made a number of critical errors in their loss to Churchill, 31-21. The Guru thinks that Wootton is the better team this week.
Prediction: Wootton 20 Northwest 12
Northwood @ Damascus
Last week the Guru stated that Damascus (5-2) can not beat any of the big boys. The Swarmin Hornets made him eat his words as they went to Sherwood (6-1) and beat the undefeated Warriors 26-22 behind a four-touchdown performance from Brian Lucas. The Hornets now find themselves right back in the middle of the 3A playoff race. They win big this week against Northwood.
Prediction: Damascus 37, Northwood 7
Richard Montgomery @ Wheaton
In the last threegames Richard Montgomery (0-7) has been outscored 137-7. In the three games before that, they were outscored 131-13. Enough said!
Prediction: Wheaton 34, Richard Montgomery 6
Rockville @ Kennedy
The Guru will not jump off of the Rockville (6-1) bandwagon just because they lost their first game last week to Northern. Kennedy (2-5) is coming off a 39-6 loss to Clarksburg. The Rams will get back to form this Friday night and get a big win.
Prediction: Rockville 30 Kennedy 14
Seneca Valley @ Quince Orchard
Seneca Valley is by far the hottest team in MOCO football. They have won five straight and found an offense that averages 30 points a game during the streak. Quince Orchard is 7-0 but could easily be 5-2. Seneca will push the Cougars this week but will fall short in the end.
Prediction: Quince Orchard 23 Seneca Valley 17
Springbrook @ Whitman
Springbrook (5-2) was very impressive last week beating a good Magruder team, 30-0. Devon Pestano scored three touchdowns to lead the Blue Devils. Whitman (6-1) is flying under the radar with one of the best defenses in the county. The Guru knows how tough it is to win at Whitman.
Prediction: Whitman 24 Springbrook 12
Watkins Mill @ B-CC
They were dancing in the streets of Montgomery Village when Watkins Mill (1-6) got their first win of the season over Poolesville 34-7. Fullback Keshawn Hall was a big factor for the Wolverines offense. B-CC (2-5) went to Blair last week and beat the Blazers 18-0. The Guru likes Watkins Mill to get their second win of the season. The Mill wins a close one.
Prediction: Watkins Mill 28, BCC 24
